Tim Karsky was appointed North Dakota Securities Commissioner by Governor Kelly Armstrong in December of 2024.

Karsky oversees the enforcement, registration, corporation finance and education divisions of the North Dakota Securities Department.

The Securities Department is responsible for regulating the offer and sale of securities in North Dakota. The Department registers and monitors the firms and individuals selling securities or providing investment advice to North Dakotans, and registers or approves registration exemptions for securities offered and sold in the state. The Department also delivers investor education programs designed to help North Dakotans make informed investment decisions, avoid fraud and build financial security.

Prior to his appointment as Securities Commissioner, Karsky served as Commissioner for the Department of Financial Institutions for approximately 10 years and over another 10 years as Assistant Commissioner and Chief Examiner.  He also worked in the private banking sector for 10 years.  

Karsky served as Chairman for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, Chairman of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado, and Chairman of the Independent Bankers of North Dakota.  

Karsky holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.
